How Much To Put On Your Wedding Registry

One of the most common wedding registry questions asked is how much to put on your wedding registry. (The second most common question is “How do I tell people about my wedding registry?“)

The average amount that a guest will spend on a wedding gift is $150. Keep in mind that this will vary, but its a good starting point. Once you know this, and a few other bits of information figuring out how much to add is easy.

How Many Guests Are you Inviting?

Be sure to include guests that aren’t attending, as they might still want to give a gift. In general, if you’re inviting 100 people to your wedding and the average is $150, then the total value of your registry should be about $15000.

Vary Your Price Points.

While the average is $150 per guest, you’re going to have some that want to give more and some who can only afford a modest amount. In general, you should try to vary your price points. You can start with a base amount of $25 then increase them incrementally to $50, $100, $150 +

Check and Update Your Registry Regularly

We’ve all been there. There’s nothing worse then trying to buy from a registry and not being able to give as much as you want or what you want. Even worse, what if your guests go to your registry and there’s nothing left to buy? So when if comes to how much to put on your wedding registry – always make sure you have more items registered than guests invited in order to cover your bases. And even if you do this, be sure to check your registry as your wedding date approaches because you never know how much people will actually contribute!
