You know what I’m talking about: the first dance songs, parent dances, bridal party entrance… All the ones that are really defined by the music you choose. Your guests might not remember, or notice, that your playlist had a distinct 80′s feel, but they will remember that you and your bridal party made your grand entrance to Queen’s “We Will Rock You”. Just like they’ll remember how much that tear-jerking first dance number made them cry.

Did you really think this song wouldn’t be included? Yes, it’s overplayed, but there’s a reason for that. It’s classic, it’s timeless, and it perfectly conveys every sappy feeling you, your new partner, and your guests are feeling.
2. Feels Like Home – Chantal Kreviazuk
A super sweet, romantic song that I can’t say I’ve ever heard played at a wedding. Win-win?
3. The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson
Sweet and a little silly. Just like you and the Mr or Mrs!
For the indie or bohemian among us, short and sweet, but especially sweet, sigh…
5. You’re the Inspiration – Chicago
You can’t have a list like this without an 80′s power ballad. Sacrilege!
6. Just the Way You Are – Diana Krall
I know this is a Billy Joel favourite for many people, but I love me the Diana Krall version. Her smoky voice and jazzy touch add a certain something I just can’t get enough of.
If you want Sinatra crooning your first dance, this song couldn’t be more perfect.
8. For Once in My Life – Frank Sinatra
Two Sinatra songs! I know, I know. But he has too many amazing songs to choose from. And like “More”, I’m pretty sure this is another less-heard song of his!
9. This Will Be Our Year – The Zombies
One of my favourite songs of all time. A slightly unusual choice, maybe, but the loving sentiments are right there.
10. Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler
Ok, ok. You got me. This was my first dance. I had to sneak it in. It’s cute, silly, maybe a little inappropriate, but it’s definitely the perfect song for the right couple (especially if you’re looking for something short and snappy).
